Announcing the Launch of Vets Healing on the Fly
We’re proud to announce that our long-standing veteran support initiative, formerly affiliated with Project Healing Waters, is now operating independently as Vets Healing on the Fly, a program of the Farmington Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (FVTU).
Since 2012, our chapter has provided local veterans and active-duty service members with meaningful opportunities to connect, heal, and grow through fly fishing, fly tying, rod building, and time on the water. Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand how this sport can provide peace, camaraderie, and purpose.
Why the Change?
This transition allows us to streamline our operations, dedicate 100% of locally raised funds to the program, and tailor our activities more directly to the needs of our veteran participants. While we’re no longer affiliated with the national Project Healing Waters organization, our mission, leadership, and commitment remain the same.
What’s Staying the Same?
All programs remain free to veterans.
We’ll continue offering fly tying, rod building, fly fishing education, and on-the-water outings.
Events and classes are led by local volunteers who generously donate their time and expertise.
Program leadership remains in place, with Don LaChance continuing as Program Lead.
What’s New?
Greater flexibility in planning local and regional outings.
Direct stewardship of funds—your donations go farther and stay local.
New name, same purpose: Vets Healing on the Fly.
Get Involved
In 2024, 38 volunteers contributed over 2,000 hours in support of 36 veteran participants. Whether you’re a veteran, a potential volunteer, or a donor, we welcome your interest and support.
